I am Lisa Dempsey. I started this blog in 2015 when I was about to turn 50. At the time, my goal was to share my experience as a personal and business coach with others to help them live a fuller and more prosperous life.
Over time the tone has changed from a professional style: “let me tell you what you gotta do,” to one that is more vulnerable and shares more personal experiences.
I am a creator, explorer, advocate, and mother of four kids: three adult-children and one teenager. Two of my kids have special needs. This circumstance shapes almost everything in my life.
My youngest son has Autism, Anxiety, and Dyslexia. My second oldest daughter has an Intellectual Developmental Disability. These kids have enriched my life beyond measure and tested my limits to the extreme. They have given me the gifts of grit and grace. Thank goodness I have a husband, Robert, who is a true friend and partner in caring for all of our children.
A few other tidbits about me: I admit that I am a terrible housekeeper, I curse too much, and I hate homework. I love my time in the kitchen, and I can make a roux, chicken and dumplings, and my son says I make the best sloppy joes ever! I adore our two Cardigan Welsh Corgis Zeus and Mick. When I’m not with my family, I savor time in both silent reflection or the camaraderie of my girlfriends. I am blessed to be a part of a sorority of women with differently-abled children (special needs), and their friendship keeps me laughing. I love to travel, and I’ve spent a great deal of time the last few years rediscovering the outdoors, visiting our State Parks, and enjoying all the wonders they provide. This year Robert bought me a tiny trailer to go out adventuring in. I named her Mrs. Which Way. I delight in art, literature, history, food, and the theater, especially musical theater. “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” from the musical “Wicked” is one of my favorite song and lyrics from a show. I hope we get to know each other and that what I share here brings a little bit of goodness into your life.
