What revolution will you lead? That is today’s writing prompt from Live Your Legend. The word revolution brings connotations of major and radical change. Religions, nations, and social classes are embattled every day in a revolution. Our daily lives are challenged with revolutions in technology and communication. Great leaders such as George Washington, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. are not what I consider to be typical comparisons of a suburban mom and her ability to impact change. But two of my personality traits, for better and worse, happen to be optimism and a touch of naivete’. I also believe in the butterfly effect, the concept that small causes can have large effects.
I’m still in the discovery phase of what is next for me, and I’m balancing serendipity with personal dreams and desires. It will all come together soon I’m sure. My revolution may just be to raise bright children that will then become revolutionaries in their own time. My revolutionmay be to bring light to the needs of others who would not be heard otherwise. My revolutionmay be to just set an example of authenticity, love, and truth.
August 12, 2012, was World Humanitarian Day. Beyonce’ performed an incredible song with stunning images that drive home the message that simple acts sometimes are the most influential acts. I include the link here: http://vevo.ly/PAp23d it is musically and visually worth the four minutes of your time to indulge yourself in the message.
I was also recently introduced to an organization by the name of The Emerson Collective. They use journalism, storytelling, and documentaries to support their mission of removing barriers and developing innovative solutions to spur change and promote equality. This is not only directed at the lives of people but the health and stewardship of our earth.
Maybe my revolution will come in partnering with an organization that needs my talents and insights. It may be that my revolution will be through written expression. Conceivably my revolution may come through connecting others through my activities and passions. Most certainly my revolution will unfold as I continue to seek out new opportunities to support those I love most while attempting to feed my joys and passions each day.
